The Papica Photography Experience: A Modern Approach to Family Photography from Start to Finish

My goal as a family photographer is to create an easy and seamless photography experience for my clients. I cater to busy families, and as a mom myself, I know exactly what that looks like! Whether you are a stressed and sleep-deprived new mom or a busy working parent with school-age children, I want you to know that the Papica Photography Experience is designed especially for you.

In this blog post, we’ll look at each step of my modern approach to family photography, from start to finish. Here’s exactly what you can expect at each stage of our journey:

Step 1: Booking Your Portrait Experience

You’ve already taken a look at my work and fallen in love with my style, which means it’s time to book your session! You can contact me here to choose your session type or reach out with any questions. I provide maternity, newborn, baby and child, milestone, and family photography, as well as bundle packages. There is something for everyone here!

Step 2: Preparing for Your Session

Once you’ve booked your session, I’ll be in touch with information on how to prepare. This will vary based on your session type and location. From how to choose outfits to tips on what to bring, you’ll find all your questions answered so you can feel prepared and ready for your big day. I’ll also let you know what I’ll be bringing and the plan for your session time. That way you know exactly what to expect.

This is also the perfect time to think about what type of photography package you would like. I offer three types of packages for most of my sessions—Archival Quality Wall Art, Professional Album, or The Complete Experience. Pricing is fully transparent and available on my website. Just click on your session type under Services and you’ll be able to check out pricing and exactly what is included with your package so you can choose the best fit.

Step 3: Your Family Photography Experience

The big day has finally arrived!

On the day of your session we’ll meet at your chosen location. I am a mobile photographer so am happy to travel to a favorite beach or other outdoor location on the beautiful island of Oahu. (For outdoor sessions, sunrise is the best time for golden light, gorgeous backgrounds, and comfortable temperatures.) I have a few tried and true locations, so if you need ideas just contact me. If you’ve chosen a newborn photography session, I will come to your home with everything we’ll need for sweet and timeless photos of your little family.

With my real-world approach to family photography, I try to focus my sessions less on forced poses and camera-ready smiles and more on capturing the organic, spontaneous moments that happen while you and your family are relaxed and enjoying one another. Your session is a time to focus on your family. Let me focus on the camera. My shooting style is laid back and natural. I will take care of all the details like keeping things moving (to prevent little ones becoming bored or restless) and gently guiding you as we create picture-perfect moments. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the experience!

Step 4: The Hard Part…Waiting

This is the hardest part! That post-session excitement is real, and I know you want to see the beautiful family photos we created together. The three-week waiting period can feel like such a long time.

Although waiting will feel like doing nothing on your end, it’s an important step in the family photography process, because there’s actually a lot happening behind the scenes. This is one of the busiest steps in the process for me and is my time to go through every one of the hundreds of pictures we took during your session.

I’ll carefully curate your collection, making sure to keep only the very best. Once I’ve narrowed it down and removed any not-so-great images or near-duplicates, I’ll go through and carefully edit each image to correct exposure, remove distractions and bring out the details of the location.

Step 5: Finalizing Your Photography Products

Once I’ve finished creating that perfect gallery, I’ll send it to you along with a personal mobile app so you can easily share your images with friends and family. I purposefully make sure that you get to choose your photos at your leisure, in the comfort of your own home. For me, this is a much more modern and family-friendly approach than having you sit with me in a studio while we go through a slideshow. Viewing and selecting your family photos should be sweet, personal, and done in your own time.

At this point, you can choose your wall art piece or let me know which photos you’ve chosen so that I can design your album (a digital copy of which will be sent to you for approval before it goes to print. I want to make sure it’s perfect and exactly what you want!) Just like with choosing your photos, I want the creation of your products to be special and personal, so I don’t do high-pressure in-person sales. Everything is customized and shipped directly to you so that it’s as seamless and hassle-free as possible.
